The fly-fishing in Dalsland offers both rapids and quiet meres with waiting char and rainbow trout. The Höljerudsforsarna, situated right north of Billingsfors, are without doubt one of the best char fishing rapids in the region. Nymphs, dry flies, preferably mayfly imitations in the early summer can be successful here. The equipment should be AFTM-class 5-7 and with a floating line or sink tip. Wading boots or pants will provide better throwing possibilities, but you must be careful when wading, to avoid stepping on the smorgasbord of the char and scaring it away. For the calm waters, there is a great variety of waters to choose between. The tactics differ slightly compared to the rapid water fishing. Here you must be able to throw out a considerable length of line. Larger nymphs, like the Montana, the Wolly Worm and the White Sara are some useful examples. Here the AFTM-classes should be around 6 to 7 , in order to reach an extra metre. The best fishing is usually during the breezy days, when the char and rainbow trout get a bit boulder. Dry flies, such as the Europea 12, streaking Caddis or similar baits can be good. Small, black flies might also be needed sometimes. Hitting a waiting fish with a well-made dry-fly is an experience for anyone. Try it yourself! |
