Species of Fish in Lake Lelång. Smelt mostly in the larger lakes, common as an additional catch when netfishing for pollan and whitefish. Smelt is not a common foodfish in Dalsland, but in other places in Sweden it is appreciated. The fresh, cucumber-like scent right after the catch is a characteristic sign. Otherwise the smelt is important gamefeed, mainly for perch, pike, salmon and salmon trout, i.e. the fish hunting out in the free, open parts of the large lakes. One can hear the expression "smelt perch", usually referring to large grown specimen of perch, which have specialized in hunting smelt. |
